Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly keen on 19-year-old Borussia Dortmund attacker Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.

According to journalist Dean Jones on Give Me Sport, Arsenal and Chelsea are keeping tabs on Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, and it remains to be seen whether they decide to make a move for him at the end of the season.

The talented young attacker has been likened to the former Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho because of the similarity when it comes to their style of play. The player joined the German club in order to continue his development with ample first-team action, and he managed to impress with his cameos last season.

Bynoe-Gittens scored four goals across all competitions for the German club last season and will hope to improve on that tally this season. Jones revealed that the player is not on Arsenal’s priority list right now, but they are looking for alternatives in the wide areas.

Mikel Arteta has had to overuse the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli over the past year. Arsenal are lacking in depth when it comes to the wide areas. So Bynoe-Gittens has emerged as a viable target. Meanwhile, Chelsea are keeping tabs on the youngster as well if he wants a return to England. It will be interesting to see if the Blues can fend off the competition from Arsenal and sign the player.

Jones said to GMS: “Bynoe-Gittens is a really interesting link but Germany has been good for him in terms of getting out into a new environment and learning about himself and how football is perceived away from England at such a young age. I don’t think it helped that he was labelled as their new Sancho but Arsenal would be a suitable fit if he wants to come back to England, if nothing more than the fact his representatives also have a few of Arsenal’s biggest players on their books. At the moment I’m not convinced this is top of Arsenal’s priority list but we know they are on the lookout for new alternatives out wide and as such I do think this is one to just keep an eye on for now. It’s also worth noting that Chelsea also have an eye on him if and when he looks for a return to England”

Mauricio Pochettino could certainly use more depth and quality in the wide areas. Chelsea paid big money for players like Mykhailo Mudryk, but the Ukrainian international has not been able to live up to the expectations in the Premier League, and his performances have been rather underwhelming.

Chelsea might need more quality in the attack in the upcoming seasons and Bynoe-Gittens could prove to be a quality long-term acquisition for them. The talented young Dortmund attacker will look to continue his development with regular football for now. But it remains to be seen whether Chelsea and Arsenal are prepared to provide him with first-team assurances.

The 19-year-old cannot afford to sit on the bench at a big club now and he must prioritise his development with regular football. The player will need to decide on his next move carefully and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.
