Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham run rule over Santiago Gimenez

Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham are some of the high-profile clubs keeping constant tabs on Feyenoord’s 22-year-old striker Santiago Gimenez.

According to 90min, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are among those keen to sign Santiago Gimenez from Feyenoord. The London trio had scouts present to watch the Mexican forward in action for his club’s tie against Ajax and have returned with glowing reports.

A fiery clash between Ajax and Feyenoord at the Johan Cruyff Arena only lasted 56 minutes before authorities suspended the match. Fan incidents behind the scenes proved problematic for the game to continue, which involved some of the high-profile players in the Eredivisie.

With Feyenoord utterly dominating proceedings at the home of Ajax, they had six shots on targets from their seven in total. The Eredivisie champions also converted three, including a brace from Santiago Gimenez. The 22-year-old striker has been making rounds in the media for his growing stature.

The youngster had many scouts watching him during the game. Three of London’s most high-profile teams, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham, had people present to gauge the Mexican style, and they have returned with glowing reports.

All three of those London sides have been linked with a new striker ahead of the January window and could as well make a move for the Feyenoord star. Gimenez had links to Chelsea during the summer, and now the Blues have the company of local rivals Arsenal and Tottenham.

Chelsea and Arsenal remain linked with Ivan Toney, and it may appear the Brentford star is their priority target. If the Bees continue to demand a massive asking price, much over the forward’s actual valuation, there is every chance those clubs will look away towards alternatives.

The Blues need a proper presence up front and a goalscorer among their ranks. Chelsea lost their third game of the season when they were beaten by Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge, as their goalscoring numbers made for a grim reading this season.

Arsenal, on the other hand, have plenty of strike options but lacks a player of a different profile. Someone like Toney or Gimenez could fill that void, but things will depend on the price set on those players. As for Tottenham, they still need to replace Harry Kane since his departure sufficiently and hence could look at the 22-year-old Mexican for their progressive side.

Son Heung-min is not getting any younger, and Richarlison has had inconsistent numbers since joining Tottenham. Hence, someone like Gimenez would make sense from the squad-building perspective, as the Mexican promises to add plenty of goals to their game.

Hence, if Feyenoord show openness to consider offers for their star striker, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham could lead the queue of top clubs chasing the 22-year-old. The forward could also consider taking the leap and making a big career move.
