Manchester City are interested in another Sunderland goalkeeper, with 16-year-old Matty Young firmly settled on their radar.

According to The Sun, Manchester City are showing plenty of interest in Sunderland’s 16-year-old goalkeeper Matty Young. Pep Guardiola’s side have accelerated their efforts in recruiting some of the top young talents from elsewhere, with the Black Cats’ third-choice stopper firmly settling on their radar.

Manchester City have showcased how to run a football club on all fronts and continue to enhance their setup at all age levels. There is no doubt about the supremacy of Pep Guardiola’s first team, which recently won the ‘treble’ and are favourites to do so again this season.

On the other side, the club have become astute buyers of talents and exceptional sellers in the market, which helps them balance their act and makes plenty of business sense. In recent years, they have upped their academy game and have made considerable profits selling some of their highly coveted talents.

For instance, they must have sold talent worth more than £70 million, with Cole Palmer being the only one with actual first-team experience under Guardiola. They had banked on their skill and future value to sell at reasonable prices with the others.

In truth, many of their academy graduates have established themselves as first-team stars. Uncapped winger Carlos Borges recently shone for Ajax. At the same time, Romeo Lavia, Gavin Bazunu and James Trafford have found themselves playing regularly elsewhere despite not playing for Manchester City’s first team.

Outgoings aside, the talent factory in the background makes Manchester City an attractive destination for young, talented players who want to join the club. Hence, to balance the act, the club have been active in the youth markets and consistently acquiring talents that can make a mark in the future.

They are now keen to sign Sunderland’s 16-year-old Championship whizkid Matty Young. The teenage goalkeeper has made a mark on Tony Mowbray’s side and is currently their third-choice keeper. He was given a run out during pre-season, where he played in goal.

Sunderland recently extended his deal. But with the player changing representation, there are chances of a move away from Wearside. The presence of Manchester City will undoubtedly tempt the 16-year-old Championship whizkid to consider moving here. He will examine some previous goalkeeping talents to emerge from the club’s academy.

Manchester City also wanted another Sunderland keeper in Tony Bell, who is younger than Young. Chelsea beat them to the signing. And now Manchester City are firmly looking at the 16-year-old Championship star to make the move to Manchester.

Sunderland could cash in on the talent if they receive a reasonable sum from Manchester City and will not stop Young’s path towards a bigger club. For the Premier League champions, it would seem like a fantastic move for a player they were sure many other top teams would have chased.
