La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid are reportedly tracking the progress of Evan Ferguson at Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Evan Ferguson is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues are scouring the market for alternatives to Kylian Mbappe. And the 18-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion attacking sensation is one of three young prospects on their radar.
Evan Ferguson spent most of his formative years in his homeland, turning out for St. Kevins Boys and Bohemians. But the Irish international ended his youth career in England after joining Brighton & Hove Albion two years ago. And after impressing in age-group and reserve games, he made his first-team debut as a 16-year-old in August 2021.
Since then, the teenage attacking sensation has come leaps and bounds, establishing himself as a pivotal figure for Brighton. Despite being only 18 years old, he is a regular for the Seagulls and has scored four goals in five outings thus far this season. Meanwhile, Ferguson’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs.
Recent reports have linked him with Arsenal, Manchester City, and Manchester United. But the Premier League heavyweights will have to contend with another big-name competitor, with Real Madrid joining the race to sign him.
The Merengues are prioritising signing a young attacker in the 2024 summer transfer window. Real Madrid did not replace Karim Benzema after his departure this past summer. And Mbappe is their top target to bolster their attack ahead of the 2024/25 season. But there are concerns that the Frenchman will sign a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain instead of joining Real Madrid.
So, the Spanish giants are scouring the market for alternatives, with several candidates appearing on their radar. The report mentions three players whom Juni Calafat is monitoring — Antonio Nusa, Benjamin Sesko, and Evan Ferguson. All three players are highly-rated attackers, but Ferguson will be a top-notch addition to the Real Madrid squad.
The 18-year-old is a well-rounded striker and has already taken the Premier League by storm. He also possesses many qualities of Harry Kane, one of Real Madrid’s targets this past summer. But it will be interesting to see if he becomes the top target for Real Madrid, depending on Mbappe’s decision over his future.
