Chelsea have no intention of parting ways with Reece James

Chelsea will not entertain the thought of selling Reece James despite his injury troubles.

According to Ben Jacobs on GiveMeSport, Premier League giants Chelsea have no intention of parting ways with star defender Reece James, currently on a £250,000-a-week contract, anytime soon.

The Englishman is the club’s first choice right-back and is a crowd favourite having come through Cobham. A Blue through and through, he was handed the armband by Mauricio Pochettino ahead of the 2023/24 season.

James started off brightly against Liverpool on the opening day of the campaign, but it was short-lived as he was forced off with an injury. It has become a regular trend of late, with the 23-year-old missing 31 games since the start of the 2022/23 season.

While James’s quality is unquestionable, his unavailability is a major issue that more or less negates his impact on the field. Given Chelsea’s financial might of late in the transfer window, it is only natural that some may question if they are better off without an injury-hit star.

But Chelsea have other plans and are unwilling to even consider offers for their skipper. They view him as a key cog in their future plans and as long as he can stay fit, it could very well prove to be the case.

The same can be said of the player, who is keen to stay put at Stamford Bridge. This is despite serious interest shown in his services by both Real Madrid and Manchester City. Dani Carvajal is not getting any younger and will need replacing soon.

James is just 23 and can prove to be a long-term solution for the Spanish giants’ woes.  The same can be said of Manchester City who will need to replace Kyle Walker sooner or later. The player penned a new £250,000-a-week deal at Chelsea only last year and is among the club’s highest earners.

More so, a dynamic full-back is worth his price in today’s market, and the Englishman certainly fits the bill. He is currently ruled out until the next international break in October. How the club and the fans feel about selling him should these injury concerns persist remains to be seen.
