Real Madrid will trigger the “purchase option” clause to sign in-form Spanish international Joselu in a permanent deal next summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Joselu has convinced Real Madrid to sign him in a permanent deal next summer. The Merengues are ready to trigger the “purchase option” clause to land him for good in the 2024 summer transfer window.
Joselu has been a journeyman throughout his professional career, representing ten clubs thus far. He has turned out for well-known outfits like Real Madrid, Celta Vigo, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Newcastle United. But his stock has skyrocketed since returning to Spain four years ago.
The 33-year-old rose to prominence again during his stint with Deportivo Alaves. And he was excellent in the 2022/23 season, finishing as one of the top scorers in La Liga, even though the Catalan club went down to the Segunda Divison. But Joselu’s desire to remain in the top flight earned him a move this past summer.
Real Madrid came calling for Sevilla’s services after losing Karim Benzema and Mariano Diaz. And Los Blancos sealed the agreement to complete the loan deal in June. But the Spanish international had to bide his time to become a regular for Real Madrid, with Carlo Ancelotti preferring Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes as the first-choice attackers.
However, with Vinicius Junior suffering an injury that has sidelined him for a few weeks, Joselu had his opportunity to shine. And the Spaniard has amassed two goals and one assist in just 244 minutes of game time thus far. That has seemingly been enough to convince Real Madrid to trigger the “purchase option” clause in the loan deal.
Real Madrid will only have to shell out a seven-figure sum to permanently secure Joselu’s services next summer. So, the 33-year-old is an attractive option for the Merengues to bolster their attack, even though they will prioritise signing Kylian Mbappe in 2024.
