Chelsea keeping tabs on Aaron Ramsdale

Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea are keen on acquiring the services of the 25-year-old Arsenal shot-stopper Aaron Ramsdale.

According to a report by the Daily Mail, Chelsea are keeping a close eye on the situation of Aaron Ramsdale at Arsenal. The 25-year-old’s future has been uncertain ever since was benched by Mikel Arteta for their fixture against Everton.

The Blues are interested in having him in their ranks and they could push for his services in the winter. Ramsdale joined the Gunners back in 2021 from Sheffield United. He has gone from strength to strength since joining Arteta’s team and is amongst the best goalkeepers in the league.

The England international signed a new four-year contract back in May and his deal now runs until the summer of 2026. The 25-year-old is committed to Arsenal but things could change in the near future if he doesn’t get enough game time.

Arsenal acquired the services of David Raya from Brentford in the recently concluded transfer window. The Gunners have signed him season-long loan with a £27 million option to buy.

The 28-year-old has been added to the squad to increase competition for the number one shot. Many reports have suggested that the Spanish international could end up being the preferred choice in goal given his ability on the ball. His skill set will allow the Gunners to play it out from the back with much more precision. As a result, Arteta wanted him in their ranks.

The Spanish manager gave the 28-year-old his Arsenal debut in their last Premier League outing against Everton. He benched Ramsdale to star Raya in goal in their 1-0 and ever since that, the England international has become the talk of the town and quite a few big clubs are keeping tabs on him.

Chelsea are one of the clubs that are interested in his services and the Blues might have signed Robert Sanchez from Brighton but they are still looking for more competition in goal. They have already offloaded Édouard Mendy while Kepa Arrizabalaga is currently out on loan.

Even the Spanish shot-stopper is expected to be offloaded on a permanent basis next summer. As a result, they are in need of another quality goalkeeper and have their eyes on Ramsdale who has already proven himself in the English top flight.

While the Blues are keen on having him in their ranks, it won’t be easy as Arteta has hinted towards using both the goalkeeper he has. He is expected to rotate them and is even open to mid-game goalkeeper substitution.

As a result, Ramsdale’s departure will depend on the amount of game time he gets. However, Arsenal could be tempted to sell if a bid of £60 million arrives next summer according to the report.
