Chelsea are ready to part ways with their 24-year-old academy graduate Trevoh Chalobah because of FFP concerns.
According to a report by Football Insider, Chelsea are looking to offload Trevoh Chalobah in the winter transfer window. The Blues are in need to balance their books because of Financial Fair Play reasons, and they have decided to sell the 24-year-old in order to keep things in check.
Chalobah has come through the ranks at the club. As a result, the fee acquired from his sale will be recorded as pure profit. His departure will help them avoid any FFP sanctions, which is why they are ready to negotiate his departure in January.
Chelsea have spent millions since their takeover. They have focused on young players with huge potential and have paid big bucks for quite a few players. In the recently-concluded transfer window, they spent around £400 million on new signings.
The West London club acquired the services of Axel Disasi, Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson and Moises Caicedo. They even offloaded quite a few of their senior players who were no longer a part of their plans moving ahead.
While they have raised a significant amount from departures, they are still in need of balancing their books and offloading an academy graduate will help their cause. As a result, they are ready to let go of the former England Under-21 star.
Chalobah made it to their first team back in 2021. Initially, the 24-year-old was a very important part of their first team but of late he has gone down the pecking order. He has featured in a total of 63 matches for the Blues’ first team. As far as last season is concerned, the Chelsea graduate was involved in 33 matches.
But, he has gone down the pecking order under Mauricio Pochettino. The 24-year-old is unlikely to have an important role at the club. As a result, he might be ready to leave as he seeks regular first-team football.
The 24-year-old rejected an opportunity to join Nottingham Forest in the summer. Meanwhile, there was interest from Bayern Munich in his services during the recently-concluded window. Thomas Tuchel is a huge admirer of the English defender and they could return for his signatures in the winter.
