Bayern Munich considering January loan move for Trevoh Chalobah

Bayern Munich are reportedly still interested signing Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, who had a £50 million price tag in the summer.

A report from Evening Standard claims that Bayern Munich could look to sign Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah on loan in January. They were linked with a move for the 24-year-old during the summer transfer window as well. But the move did not materialise eventually, with his £50 million price tag spoiling the issue.

Chalobah has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot, and he could be tempted to join the German club if they can provide him with gametime assurances. The Chelsea defender was keen on moving to the Allianz Arena this past summer.

The opportunity to reunite with Thomas Tuchel could be an attractive option for the player. The 24-year-old defender has worked with the German manager during their time together at Stamford Bridge.

Chalobah is versatile enough to operate as a right-back as well as a central defender. His versatility will be an added bonus for Bayern Munich during the second half of the campaign. The German champions recently sanctioned the departure of Benjamin Pavard, and they need a versatile defender to replace the Frenchman.

Chalobah could be the ideal replacement for the French international defender in theory. It will be interesting to see if the Blues are prepared to sanction his departure on loan. Chelsea will hope to return to the Champions League this season, and they need a deeper squad with more quality to compete with their rivals.

Loaning out a versatile player like Chalobah, who could be a useful option for Mauricio Pochettino, might not be a good idea. But the report claims the player might be set for an exile at Chelsea. So, it will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few weeks.

The defender was valued at £50 million by Chelsea. But it is highly unlikely that any club will look to sign him permanently. The transfer will have to be a loan move in order for Bayern Munich to sign him.

Meanwhile, Tuchel knows the Chelsea defender well, and he will be hoping to help the 24-year-old develop further with regular game time during the second half of the campaign if the transfer goes through.
