Chelsea may have rejected the chance to sign experienced midfielder Marcelo Brozovic during their search for a defensive midfielder during the summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano on YouTube, Chelsea might have rejected the chance to sign Marcelo Brozovic, as the Croatian was reportedly offered during the summer. The Inter Milan star eventually left for Saudi side Al Nassr and could have become a subject of conversation with Chelsea when they were keen on a defensive midfielder.

Chelsea fans consider their club as the undisputed winner of the transfer window. If the quantity of players gives a club that title, then the Blues clearly won it alongside Nottingham Forest. Todd Boehly always retained his long-term ideas as he continued to splash the cash on young stars.

They managed to bring in a variety of players despite spending a chunk of the window chasing Moises Caicedo. They eventually signed the Ecuadorian in a £115 million deal, as Chelsea prioritised a move for a new defensive midfielder in the summer.

On top of Caicedo, Chelsea also managed to bring Romeo Lavia, which made a statement of intent about what they wish to achieve this season. Neither player has managed to revive their fortunes as they continued to languish in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

During the window, Chelsea endured a period of uncertainty with their pursuit of Caicedo. There were many defensive midfielders linked with the Blues, as many considered the Caicedo deal impossible.

Fabrizio Romano now revealed that Inter Milan star Marcelo Brozovic was reportedly offered to Chelsea. He mentions that it’s not Inter Milan who did it, but the work of agents and intermediaries who seemed keen to find the Croatian a new club.

The 30-year-old midfield general could have suited Chelsea and brought in some much-needed experience in this side. However, the Blues appeared uninterested in such a deal and may have rejected the chance to sign the former Inter star.

Brozovic eventually signed with Saudi side Al Nassr, as he joined Cristiano Ronaldo at the Middle Eastern club. However, he could have proved a decent option for the Blues, but that never happened. Moreover, there were suggestions that Chelsea weren’t keen to sign anyone over the age of 25. Hence, that factor would have ruled out a move for the 30-year-old midfield general.
