Arsenal are reportedly prioritising a contract extension for Oleksandr Zinchenko once they get done with Martin Odegaard and Ben White.

According to 90 Min, Arsenal could turn their attention towards Oleksandr Zinchenko’s contract extension once they finish their business with other key stars. The Gunners consider the Ukrainians an important part of their plans and will sit down with the left back to discuss a new deal.

Very few players have a transformational effect on a team, and Oleksandr Zinchenko surely is one of those. The left-back arrived from Manchester City for a modest fee between £30-35 million and has since played a major role in shaping this new-look Arsenal side under Mikel Arteta.

Not only has the Ukrainian adopted to Arteta’s need for an inverted full-back, but his assuredness on the pitch allows Arsenal more control in games. In some games Zinchenko missed last season, the Gunners were more timid than when he was on their side.

Hence, alongside Gabriel Jesus, the 26-year-old utility man was a revelation for the Emirates crowd, and the club now want to ensure he stays for many years to come. When Zinchenko joined, he only signed a four-year deal, and now the club are planning to offer him a new contract.

The 26-year-old utility man is clearly not a priority for Arsenal concerning contract extensions, but the club feel he warrants the reward. The Gunners are pushing ahead with a new contract for skipper Martin Odegaard, and from the look of things, the Norwegian’s extension seems important now for the club.

Similarly, they want to reward Ben White with a new deal. The English defender is on a similar boat to Zinchenko, with nearly three years left on his deal. While the club can wait for another season before thinking about renewing the duo’s contract, they want to reward them sufficiently now and secure their services for the future.

Talk of an extension seems raw at this stage, but with time, more details could come out. Hence, there’s no clarity on the contract length or the pay rise the 26-year-old utility man could achieve with this new deal, although Zinchenko seems like the next in line after Odegaard and Ben White in that aspect.
