Arsenal are progressing in their efforts to renew Martin Odegaard’s contract after positive talks with the 24-year-old playmaker and his camp.

According to Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail, Arsenal are holding advanced negotiations with Martin Odegaard over a new deal for the 24-year-old playmaker. The Norwegian has made his mark since permanently joining the Gunners in 2021 and is set for a sharp increase to his current £120,000-a-week wages.

Arsenal are a different club under the tutelage of Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar. The Gunners have done some stellar business under the duo’s reign and ensured some of their core players will play at the club for many years to come.

A big part of their strategy dictates the club to retain their most important players while adding quality with each passing transfer window. The arrivals of Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz proved the latter, and they have already made headway in extending the contracts of their key stars.

The extension spree began last summer when Eddie Nketiah penned new terms. Then, a new contract for Gabriel Magalhaes followed, and after that, at least five more players have committed to new agreements with the club to secure their long-term future.

Arsenal have a few more key stars waiting in line to get new deals with Martin Odegaard at the forefront of their plans. The Gunners’ skipper has two years left on his £120,000-a-week contract, and Mikel Arteta wants to reward the 24-year-old playmaker for his stellar performances.

Arsenal had already begun talks with Odegaard over a new four-year deal some days ago, but the idea seemed relevant for many months. Securing the 24-year-old playmaker will go a long way from signalling their intent for the coming years and a clear message to those lurking around the Norwegian hoping he leaves.

Arsenal are optimistic about agreeing fresh terms with Odegaard, and the talks have been positive with his camp so far. As per the report, the Gunners are holding advanced negotiations with the 24-year-old playmaker, and Odegaard will get a significant pay rise on his £120,000-a-week deal.

Odegaard has sublimely started the season with two goals, including an equaliser against Manchester United before the break. He will likely resume that run when Arsenal face Everton on Sunday, as they continue to push Manchester City at the summit of the Premier League table.

It’s a long term plan to maintain and keep improving their squad members and keep pushing for top silvers.
