Liverpool are all set to battle it out with Arsenal and Chelsea for the services of 27-year-old Brentford striker Ivan Toney.
According to a report by Fichajes, Liverpool are keen on having Ivan Toney in their ranks. The 27-year-old striker was sensational last season and Jurgen Klopp’s men could push for his services in the winter transfer window. But, the Merseyside club are not the only one in the race, even Chelsea and Arsenal would love to sign him.
Toney joined Brentford in the summer of 2020 and he has gone from strength to strength since making the move. Last season, the England international was involved in 33 Premier League games and he ended up contributing with 20 goals and four assists.
His exceptional performances attracted a lot of attention and he could have been subject to a move elsewhere in the summer. But, the 27-year-old is currently serving a ban because of multiple sports betting-related breaches.
While a move might not have been possible in the summer, there is still a lot of interest in his services. His ban will be lifted during the winter transfer window and there could be a bidding war for his services.
Brentford will try their best to retain his services. According to the report, they most likely set a high asking price of around €60 million. While it could force Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool to look for alternatives, they will surely try to lower the asking price and might even put forward a player-plus-cash deal.
The Merseyside club have quite a decent attack at their disposal. But, their manager is looking for a more physical striker and he could push for the services of Ivan Toney. Meanwhile, even Arsenal and Chelsea are in need of attacking reinforcement.
Both teams want to add a proper number nine to their ranks. They are looking for someone who can guarantee goals and Toney fits the bill. With the Gunners and the Blues interested in the 27-year-old, Liverpool won’t find it easy to land him at their club.
