Newcastle United and Callum Wilson are reportedly discussing a new contract, with the prolific forward in the final year of his contract.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Newcastle United will look to tie Callum Wilson to a new deal in the coming weeks. The 31-year-old has entered the final year of his contract at St. James’ Park. So, the Magpies have opened talks with the prolific striker as they look to secure his future.

Callum Wilson has established himself as one of the best strikers in the Premier League in the last half a decade. The Englishman spent his formative years with Coventry City but rose to prominence after joining Bournemouth in July 2014. It was during that spell that he helped the Cherries become a mainstay in the Premier League following their promotion in 2015.

The 31-year-old has battled fitness issues in the last eight years but has always bounced back with top-notch performances. But Wilson’s stint with Bournemouth ended three years ago following the Cherries’ relegation to the EFL Championship. Newcastle United snapped him up, and he has not looked back since then.

The experienced striker has a solid record of 40 goals and 10 assists in 86 appearances for the Tyneside outfit. And Wilson has remained a regular for Newcastle United despite the addition of Alexander Isak. In addition, he ended the 2022/23 season as Newcastle’s top scorer, finding the back of the net 18 times.

Wilson’s 18 strikes made him one of the top scorers in the Premier League last season. And while he has been a backup option in the early days of the 2023/24 campaign, he has managed two goals in just 96 minutes of game time. But Wilson’s contract situation has left Newcastle United in a spot of bother.

The prolific forward has entered the final year of his contract with Newcastle United. So, it is hardly surprising that the Magpies want to secure Wilson’s future. And they have opened talks with the 31-year-old over a new deal. Meanwhile, they are also interested in signing a younger striker, with Ivan Toney emerging on their radar.

But Newcastle United will prefer to keep hold of Wilson beyond next summer’s transfer window. Meanwhile, the Magpies are also working on new deals for other players, including Fabian Schar and Bruno Guimaraes. And it will be interesting to see if they succeed in tying Wilson, Schar, and Guimaraes to new contracts.
