Saudi Pro League clubs retain Robert Lewandowski interest

Saudi Pro League clubs reportedly want to sign Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski in 2024 after failing to land him this summer.

According to a report by Catalan outlet Esport3, Robert Lewandowski is the subject of interest from Saudi Pro League clubs. The country’s biggest teams tried signing the free-scoring Barcelona striker in the summer transfer window. But a move did not materialise, forcing them to shelve their plans until 2024.

Robert Lewandowski has been one of the best strikers in the world for over a decade. The 35-year-old rose to prominence during his stint with Borussia Dortmund before seeing his stock skyrocket following the move to Bayern Munich. And he won every trophy with Die Roten while breaking scoring records in Germany.

Lewandowski’s stint with Bayern Munich ended last year, with Barcelona signing him in a deal worth around €45 million. And the Polish international started life as a Barcelona player brilliantly, enjoying a memorable debut season. He also ended the campaign as the top scorer in La Liga as the Blaugrana won the league title.

The veteran striker has not been at his rampaging best but still has a decent record of two goals and one assist in four La Liga outings thus far this season. Meanwhile, despite his advancing years, his stock in the transfer market remains high, with Saudi Pro League clubs keen on signing him.

Lewandowski had interest from the league this past summer, with the Public Investment Fund looking to make him the country’s latest marquee arrival. However, the experienced striker was not interested in leaving Barcelona and rejected approaches from Saudi Arabia. However, that has not compelled PIF to end the interest in him.

The report claims that the biggest Saudi Pro League clubs will continue their free-spending ways in 2024. And Lewandowski is one of the targets for PIF heading into the January and summer transfer windows next year.
