Manchester City keeping tabs on Ian Maatsen situation

Manchester City are reportedly keen on 21-year-old versatile Chelsea defender Ian Maatsen amid concerns over his contract.

A report from 90min claims that Manchester City are now closely monitoring situation of Ian Maatsen. Chelsea are scrambling to tie the 21-year-old to a new long-term contract.

The versatile defender has entered the final year of his contract at Chelsea, and he will be able to move on as a free agent next summer. Apparently, Chelsea agreed on a deal with Burnley to sell the player earlier this summer. But the left-back rejected a move to Turf Moor.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea can convince the 21-year-old to sign a new contract with them. They have made attempts to tie him down to a new deal. But the Dutchman is yet to agree on terms.

Burnley agreed a deal with Chelsea to sign the player on loan this season, with the option of making it permanent for a fee of around £31.5 million next summer. Manchester City could definitely use more depth in the defence and signing a talented young left-back could prove to be a wise decision.

The Dutchman has the potential to develop into a quality Premier League defender, and he could be an asset for Manchester City in the coming seasons. Working under a top-class coach like Pep Guardiola will be an added incentive, and the defender could be keen on the transfer.

It will be interesting to see if Chelsea are willing to sell the player to arrival. Given his contract situation, the Blues will be under pressure to cash in on him if a lucrative offer is presented. The 21-year-old utility man will look to establish himself as a key player in the Premier League, and the opportunity to play for a club like Manchester City could be hard to turn down.
