According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Gabriel Moscardo has been the subject of interest from Chelsea. But the Blues have cooled their interest in the 17-year-old Corinthians whizkid. And the latest development has given Barcelona a shot in the arm in the race to secure his services.
Gabriel Moscardo has gone from strength to strength since joining Corinthians half a dozen years ago. The Brazilian wonderkid has rapidly risen through the ranks at the famous club and made his first-team debut earlier this year. Since then, he has steadily grown in stature in his team.
The 17-year-old has turned out 23 times across all competitions this season, including youth games. Meanwhile, Gabriel’s progress in age group and first-team outings have not gone unnoticed, with several high-profile clubs setting their sights on him. And Barcelona and Chelsea have been two of his prospective suitors.
Chelsea even attempted to sign Gabriel from Corinthians in the summer transfer window. But a move did not materialise, as the West London club ran out of time to complete a deal despite beginning negotiations with the Brazilian club. However, reports since the window closes have pointed to Chelsea still being interested.
Reports this week have suggested Chelsea’s offer for Gabriel Moscardo remains on the table. And the latest update claimed that the Blues were close to signing him as Barcelona’s interests emerged. However, they have now moved on from the 17-year-old Brazilian whizkid, handing the Blaugrana a boost.
Barcelona seemed resigned to losing Gabriel to Chelsea. But in the wake of the latest report, the Catalan giants might have become the front-runners to secure his services. However, Corinthians will demand around €30 million to part ways with the teenage wonderkid, putting Barcelona in a spot of bother.
