Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has been linked with a move to the Spanish club Barcelona during the January transfer window.

The 31-year-old is not an indispensable asset for the London club and Barcelona are hoping to take advantage of his situation and sign him for cheap during the winter transfer window as per Mundo Deportivo.

Barcelona need to add more quality and depth to their squad and the 31-year-old could be available for a reasonable price in January. He will be a free agent in the summer of 2024 and Arsenal could consider selling him for a nominal price.

They will not want to lose the former Chelsea midfielder on a free transfer and Barcelona could benefit from his contract situation.

Jorginho has proven himself in the Premier League over the years and he could prove to be the ideal acquisition for Barcelona. He will add depth and quality to the Barcelona midfield. Furthermore, his style of play makes him a good fit for Barcelona’s philosophy as well.

The 31-year-old has won major trophies during his time at Chelsea and he will bring some much-needed experience and leadership qualities to the Barcelona dressing room as well.

Apart from his ability to control the tempo of the game and recycle possession, Jorginho is an expert penalty taker who will add a new dimension to the Barcelona side.

The Spanish giants have recently signed Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer after his contract expired with Manchester City and it seems that they are hoping to pull off a bargain move for another Premier League midfielder now.

It will be interesting to see if they can agree on a deal with Arsenal in the coming months.

The Gunners might need to bring in a quality replacement before letting the Italian international leave the club. Arsenal have started the season well and if they are in the title race come January, they might not be very keen on letting a player leave without replacing him.

The lack of depth in the squad derailed their title race last season and Mikel Arteta will not want to be in that position once again.

As for now, Arsenal have signed Declan Rice from West Ham United in a club-record deal and the England international’s arrival has pushed Jorginho down the pecking order. The Italian will be hoping to play more often and the opportunity to join a club like Barcelona will be hard to turn down.

The 31-year-old will be tempted to showcase his qualities in Spanish football at this stage of his career and the transfer is likely to appeal to him.
