Crystal Palace are in talks to sign Rob Holding on a permanent deal, and the 27-year-old wants to move to the London club.

Sky Sports has reported that Rob Holding is a target for Crystal Palace on deadline day as Roy Hodgson wants a new defender in his ranks. The 27-year-old Arsenal man is keen on the move to Selhurst Park but also has interest from other clubs like Sevilla.

Deadline day action is all about quick calls and late moves. And Crystal Palace are getting in on the action at this stage. Roy Hodgson wants a new defender to shore up his backline and has locked in on 27-year-old Arsenal man Rob Holding.

The centre-back has no future at Arsenal and is not part of Mikel Arteta’s plans going forward. The Arsenal manager has not selected him in his matchday squads for the opening three games, which is indicative enough of his preferences.

Holding did play a significant role at the end of the season for Arsenal due to William Saliba’s injury, but now they might not need him any more. Some clubs, including Luton Town, had shown an interest, but the player does not want the move. The Premier League newcomers’ manager also ruled out a potential transfer. But the 27-year-old Arsenal man does have a lot of interest coming from abroad.

Sevilla had asked for conditions and remain keen to take Holding on a loan deal. Arsenal would ideally want to sell him outright. And now, Crystal Palace are holding talks to make that happen.

Hodgson’s search for a new defender to add depth will have taken him towards Holding, and the defender has plenty of experience to show. Having played 98 times in the Premier League, the 27-year-old Arsenal man will look for a new challenge, ideally within England.

He has the pedigree to make a big impression at Crystal Palace Palace, but the deal is only half underway. So far, talks have started, but there is still a long way to go before the move gets finalised. Holding wants the move, although it will depend on Arsenal’s asking price.

If the deal collapses, the 27-year-old could evaluate his options, including Turkey and Sevilla in Spain. Arsenal will hope the move to Crystal Palace works out as they could get a better deal than the other options for Holding.

The Gunners will also look for solutions for some of their other unwanted stars, including Albert Sambi Lokonga, Cedric Soares and Nicolas Pepe. Nuno Tavares is on the verge of joining Nottingham Forest, while Kieran Tierney has already moved across Spain to play for Real Sociedad on loan.
