The Hammers are aiming to land a new centre-forward after letting Gianluca Scamacca leave for his homeland, Italy. Scamacca has joined Atalanta in a £27 million deal, just one year after moving to the London Stadium. West Ham boss David Moyes can still rely on Danny Ings and Michail Antonio up front, and the latter has enjoyed a fine goal-scoring start to the new campaign.
But Moyes is still hunting for a new, young, and versatile striker option to add to his squad to carry on the club’s strong start to the new season. And this has seen them linked with plenty of forwards in the last couple of days. Recent reports have also linked Ings with a move away from West Ham.
They have been offered Flamengo’s Pedro, Santos ace Marcos Leonardo and AC Milan’s Divock Origi. The Irons are also known to be admirers of Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri and Paris Saint-Germain’s Hugo Ekitike. But West Ham’s first choice signing for the striker position appears to be Yuri Alberto.
Reports claimed on Monday that West Ham director Tim Steidten, who has caught the imagination of supporters after being pictured on private jets with summer signings Edson Alvarez, Konstantinos Mavropanos and, most recently, Mohammed Kudus, took a flight to South America to seal the signing of the Corinthians striker.
But this one appears to be far from a straightforward deal to pull off. After initially refusing to entertain any interest in their star striker, Corinthians have relayed a €20 million asking price plus a sizeable sell-on clause of around 40 per cent to sanction a sale.
Steidten is working relentlessly to land a deal. But the number of representatives involved in the deal could slow proceedings. However, the player’s desire to join the capital club could eventually see a deal push through before the deadline day.
The 22-year-old Brazilian international has scored 55 goals in 166 club career games, having also had spells at Santos and Internacional in his homeland. He also spent some time in Europe with Russian side Zenit St Petersburg. But he only made 16 appearances, contributing six goals and four assists.
