Everton are reportedly showing interest in West Ham United striker Danny Ings over a possible late move.
According to The Sun, Everton are eyeing a late summer move for West Ham United striker Danny Ings before the transfer window slams shut next week.
The English ace moved to London from Aston Villa last January and has made 24 appearances for the Hammers, scoring thrice and assisting two more. While his record is hardly exemplary, Everton could do with an experienced head leading the line.
The Toffees are rock bottom of the Premier League standings after losing their first three matches and have failed to score a single goal so far. They created enough opportunities against Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend but lacked a clinical head in the box to finish off chances.
Sean Dyche is clearly under pressure and cannot afford to spend another season staving off relegation. He now looks set to target his former protege Danny Ings, who he managed while at Burnley. A mobile player who is familiar with finding the back of the net, he could be what Everton need to make their chances count.
The Toffees are closing in on Beto and have already brought in Youssef Chermiti but could still do with a reliable goal-getter. The former will take time to get used to the Premier League, while the latter is still in his developmental stage and cannot be expected to lead the line week in, and week out.
Everton do have a solid attacker in Dominic Calvert-Lewin. But the Englishman’s injuries make him an unreliable asset who is more often than not unavailable to take to the field. Neal Maupay has struggled and the less said about him the better.
Ings has made just two appearances for the Hammers this season, totalling just 17 minutes on the field. The fact that the former Liverpool striker has not been handed enough opportunities despite the exit of Gianluca Scamacca speaks volumes. With Mohammed Kudus now coming in, he could fall further down the pecking order at the London Stadium.
A move to Everton could prove to be a win-win for all parties. But it remains to be seen whether Ings will want to make the move given his past with Liverpool. But football is a strange game, and Ings certainly needs a new challenge at this point in his career. Perhaps working under the manager who saw him come through could prove to be the catalyst to a rebirth for the former Liverpool striker.
No surprise since he’s best suited playing in a front two formation or at least up front via possession-based football.
