Liverpool will have to fork out in excess of €60 million for the services of 23-year-old Crystal Palace midfielder Cheick Doucoure.

According to Fabrice Hawkins, Liverpool’s search for another midfielder continues and they are keen on having Crystal Palace’s Cheick Doucoure. The 23-year-old has done well since moving to England and the Merseyside club believe he could be their solution for the number six position in the long run.

Liverpool had a disappointing time last season. They were far from their best and one of the major reasons for their decline was their inconsistent and ageing midfield. As a result, Jurgen Klopp decided to complete a midfield overhaul in the ongoing transfer window.

The Merseyside club decided against renewing the contracts of some of their ageing midfielders and then went on to sign Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. It was a perfect start to the transfer window for Liverpool. But, post that, things changed as Jordan Henderson and Fabinho left the club to join the Saudi Pro League.

Their departure meant Klopp’s team were in need of multiple defensive midfielders. They went all out for Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. But, both players ended up choosing Chelsea. As a result, they decided to sign Wataru Endo.

Endo can surely be their number six for the next few years. But they still need someone who is much younger and can help their cause in the long run. As a result, they started keeping a close eye on Doucoure. The 23-year-old could easily provide cover to Endo and take over as a regular starter in the near future.

The Merseyside club recently reached out to Crystal Palace regarding a permanent move for the Mali international. So far, they have only enquired about his availability and no real progress has been made. And they have also been in contact with the player himself.

While Liverpool are yet to put forward an offer for the 23-year-old, Hawkins believes the Eagles value him in excess of €60 million. And, a figure close to that could be the only way for Klopp’s men to acquire the services of the 23-year-old who joined the Eagles last summer.
