Manchester United have received a major setback in their pursuit of 34-year-old Tottenham Hotspur utility man Ivan Perisic.
According to a report by Football Transfers, Manchester United were keen on having Ivan Perisic in their ranks before the end of the transfer window. The Red Devils approached the player’s agent for a possible transfer but their initial approach has been knocked back.
Erik ten Hag’s men have found themselves in a spot of bother because of an injury to Luke Shaw. The England international is expected to be out for a long while. With the left-back all set to miss months of football, the Dutch manager is keen on securing a replacement as soon as possible.
Manchester United have shortlisted a few names that they will be pushing for, and Perisic is amongst them. The Red Devils have been interested in the 34-year-old for a long while now. They wanted to sign him while he was still playing for Inter Milan. And, now they have reignited their interest because of an injury to Shaw.
Ten Hag’s men approached the player’s agent over a potential loan deal. But, according to the report, his representative didn’t encourage them to go to Tottenham with a firm offer. With the player’s agent declining the possibility of a loan move in the ongoing window, Manchester United will now have to look elsewhere.
The Croatian international arrived at Spurs last summer as a free agent and was involved in a total of 44 matches in their 2022/23 season. He racked up nearly 3,000 minutes and contributed towards 13 goals.
The 34-year-old might have been on the pitch for just 66 minutes in the first three matches of the new season. But, he is expected to have an important role at Spurs this season. As a result, he is unlikely to leave them this late in the transfer window.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are keen on signing someone who can cover up for Shaw’s absences. But, they cannot really afford to sign someone permanently and are looking to sign someone on loan. Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella is one of the names on their radar.
