Arsenal, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea were all keen on the right-back at some stage, but he has now joined Sporting CP.

The Portuguese giants beat the major competition for the 18-year-old full-back, and considering how their policy works, the defender could move in a few years for a hefty fee. Sporting CP will not stop in his way if he desires a new challenge in a few seasons.

Chelsea were one of the clubs interested in the 18-year-old full-back. They have now they have reportedly secured first preference with Sporting CP. It means that the Portuguese club will notify the Blues if they plan on selling Fresneda and allow the Premier League giants to match or outbid any offers from other suitors.

The move may have borne out of Fresneda’s agent, who remained locked in talks with Chelsea over a move this summer. Barcelona were also interested but bowed out owing to their financial struggles. The Blues may have the upper hand on yet another promising youngster in world football.

The Blues have been linked with several right-backs. Mauricio Pochettino may want another player as Reece James struggles with fitness issues. Jeremie Frimpong emerged on their list recently, but the financial implications could halt a move.

As for Fresneda, they could go to Sporting CP and use their first preference option to bring the 18-year-old full-back to London. A move to the Portuguese side seemed like a sensible decision for the player as he will play here regularly, unlike some of his current suitors.
