Barcelona are reportedly considering taking out-of-favour Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku on loan this summer.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, La Liga champions Barcelona are interested in taking Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku on loan in this summer transfer window.
The Belgian veteran has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge and is touted to leave the club this summer. However, with just days left before the transfer window slams shut, the 30-year-old’s situation does not appear to be reaching a decisive situation. Meanwhile, his market value currently stands at just €40 million.
The likes of Inter Milan, Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur have all been linked with a move for Lukaku. Saudi Arabian clubs are also keen but the experienced striker is not keen to move to the middle east, at least not yet.
With time running out and Lukaku no more in Mauricio Pochettino’s fans, Chelsea will have to come to a decision regarding their veteran striker. It was reported earlier today that the Blues are amenable to a loan exit should all other avenues fail. It would appear that such a move would garner prospective buyers.
Barcelona are keen to build on a title-winning side from last season and could do with reinforcements in the attack. Robert Lewandowski is one of the finest forwards in world football. But there is a lack of reliable alternatives who can start upfront when needed.
Lukaku lacks Lewandowski’s flair and is more of a target man who makes use of his physicality. While he is the antithesis of the football that Barcelona play, he could provide them with an interestingly rude yet effective plan B.
French giants PSG are also keen on Lukaku. But a move will depend on whether they can get the Randal Kolo Muani deal over the line. With AS Roma interested as well, efforts to land the Belgian should garner steam in the coming days.
Lukaku’s performances in clutch moments in recent times for Inter Milan and Belgium have failed to convince detractors of his abilities. With his time at Chelsea more or less done, a parting of the ways would be the best way forward for all parties involved.
