Arsenal are considering an approach for Perr Schuurs, as Mikel Arteta could make some late calls in the window regarding a new defender.

According to Torino Granata, Perr Schuurs emerges as a target for Arsenal, as Mikel Arteta could consider a move for the Tornio star. Some late decisions could happen at the Emirates in light of recent developments. Chasing the 23-year-old Serie A defender could raise some questions.

Arsenal appeared to have a settled squad at the start of the Premier League season, as many expect them not to make any more changes. Some players could leave, but none that will raise eyebrows. The serious knee injury to Jurrien Timber may have caused some changes in their thinking ahead of the transfer deadline. Mikel Arteta could dip into the market for a defender.

Against Crystal Palace, Arsenal lost Takehiro Tomiyasu to a red card, but in the latter stages of the game, Arteta flexed his muscle by showcasing the defensive depth in his squad. Some may argue the Gunners must replace Timber with another defender, but finding the right target will prove difficult.

Then there were rumours of Saudi interest in key defender Gabriel Magalhaes. While Arsenal have refused to entertain any offers, could their minds change with a mammoth offer from the Middle East? Hence, as the transfer deadline approaches and if the Gunners enter the market for a new defender, it could raise some questions.

In any case, Perr Schuurs becomes the latest player to get linked with Arsenal. The Dutchman had a good season with Torino, which had attracted the interest of a few Premier League clubs. He seemed intent on joining one of those, with Liverpool, West Ham, and Tottenham all linked at some stage.

Arsenal’s interest could turn the 23-year-old Serie A defender’s head towards the Emirates. Udinese quoted around €40 million earlier when some Premier League clubs had enquired. The price range seems acceptable, but the Gunners will look to negotiate further.

The question is whether the Dutchman’s profile fits into Arsenal’s style. Arteta has been pretty demanding in his talent identification, and there are doubts about whether Schuurs is a panic buy. He could yet turn out a promising signing, but the chances of the Gunners making the move may appear slim at the moment.
