Aston Villa and Marcos Acuna have reportedly sealed an agreement on personal terms, with the 31-year-old keen on moving to Villa Park.
According to a report by Spanish outlet La Colina de Nervion, Marcos Acuna has taken a step towards joining Aston Villa. The 31-year-old World Cup winner has an agreement on personal terms with the West Midlands club. But the Villans are still some way from finding a common ground with Sevilla over the transfer fee.
Marcos Acuna has come leaps and bounds since joining Sevilla from Sporting CP in September 2020. The Andalusian club paid only €11.25 million, including add-ons, for the Argentine full-back. And he has been worth the money Los Nervionenses paid to acquire his services three years ago.
The 31-year-old has also been a regular for his national side, winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup with La Albiceleste. And Acuna has featured twice while providing one assist thus far for Sevilla in the 2023/24 season. But the experienced full-back’s future with the Spanish outfit is uncertain amid his links with Aston Villa.
The Villans are in the market for a left-back this summer despite signing Alex Moreno from Real Betis in January. But with the Spaniard on the sidelines due to an injury and Lucas Digne not in Unai Emery’s long-term plans, it is hardly surprising that Aston Villa will look to sign a player for the position.
Recent reports have linked Digne with a move away from Aston Villa. And while the Frenchman has started the first two games of the Premier League campaign, a summer departure seems certain. Acuna has thus emerged as a viable target for Aston Villa, with the West Midlands outfit keen on finalising his deal soon.
But Villa’s first bid did not hit the spot for Sevilla. And the report claims that they are still some way off finding a common ground with the Andalusian club over the transfer fee. But personal terms will not be an issue for Aston Villa, with Acuna ready to accept the Villans’ proposal.
So an agreement is transfer fee is all that remains for Aston Villa to seal the deal to sign the 31-year-old World Cup winner. But they also have alternatives on their radar, with Nuno Tavares recently emerging as a target. And it will be interesting to see who arrives at Villa Park to bolster Emery’s left-back options.
