Sevilla reject Aston Villa offer for Marcos Acuna

Aston Villa are reportedly keen on signing 31-year-old Argentine international defender Marcos Acuna from Sevilla.

According to Estadio Deportivo, Aston Villa have submitted an offer to sign 31-year-old World Cup winner Marcos Acuna. But Sevilla have turned it down, claiming it is a laughable proposal.

Acuna has been an important player for club and country, and he could become a quality acquisition for Aston Villa. The 31-year-old can play as a left-back as well as a left-sided winger. He can improve Aston Villa defensively and help them going forward as well.

The defender has a contract with Sevilla until the summer of 2025, and he is unlikely to be a cheap acquisition. It will be interesting to see if Aston Villa decide to return with an improved offer to sign the defender in the next few days.

Aston Villa have put together an impressive squad, and they will be hoping to push for Europa League qualification. They made a disastrous start to the Premier League campaign with a 5-1 defeat against Newcastle and will look to shore up their defensive unit.

Tyrone Mings has recently picked up a serious injury and the Aston Villa defence is in need of reinforcements. Although Acuna is a left-back, he could prove to be a quality acquisition. Unai Emery should look to bring in a central defender as well. So Villa’s interest is understandable.

The West Midlands club have already signed Pau Torres from La Liga earlier this summer, and it remains to be seen whether they can get a deal for Acuna across the line. The Argentine international could be tempted to move to the Premier League this summer. The opportunity to work under a top-class coach like Emery will be a further incentive.

The 31-year-old is at the peak of his powers right now, and he will look to test himself at the highest level. A move to the Premier League can be hard to turn down for most players, and it will be interesting to see how the situation develops.

The Argentine international is a key player for Sevilla and the Spanish club are likely to demand a premium for his services. They are under no pressure to sell the World Cup winner this summer because of his contract situation. So Aston Villa will have to present a lucrative proposal if they truly want to sign the World Cup winner.
