West Ham United will consider signing Edmond Tapsoba from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen after the Harry Maguire deal collapsed.
According to a report by 90min, Edmond Tapsoba is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are scouring the market for an alternative to Harry Maguire after the deal for the Manchester United defender collapsed. And the Bayer Leverkusen centre-back is one of their options.
Edmond Tapsoba has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga since joining Bayer Leverkusen from Vitoria de Guimaraes in January 2020. A regular for the Burkina Faso international team, he is a mainstay at the back for his club and country.
The 24-year-old has turned out 138 times thus far for Bayer Leverkusen, chipping in with six goals and two assists. And Tapsoba’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Meanwhile, the player has now emerged as a target for West Ham United.
West Ham United signed two centre-backs last summer, landing Nayef Aguerd and Thilo Kehrer. But the latter has blown hot and cold, while the former has suffered from fitness issues. Meanwhile, Kurt Zouma has also been an inconsistent performer for West Ham since arriving from Chelsea.
In addition, Angelo Ogbonna is on the wrong side of 30, thus explaining the need for a centre-back. Harry Maguire had thus emerged as a viable target for West Ham, with the London club agreeing to a £30 million deal with Manchester United. But the move has now collapsed due to delays caused by Maguire’s compensation demands from Manchester United.
The Hammers have thus set their sights on alternatives, with Konstantinos Mavropanos recently emerging on their radar. And another Bundesliga-based defender, Edmond Tapsoba, is also a viable target for West Ham. In addition, Odilon Kossounou and Jonathan Tah also feature on their wishlist.
So West Ham will not have a shortage of alternatives to pursue after calling off the move for Harry Maguire. And it will be interesting to see if Edmond Tapsoba becomes the top target for the East London club in the final days of the summer transfer window.
