Liverpool are reportedly interested in sanctioning a move for Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams, who has a £20 million release clause.

A report from 90min claims that Liverpool have now joined the race to sign Tyler Adams. The 24-year-old American international midfielder will cost around £20 million due to a relegation-linked clause in his Leeds United contract.

A clause in the midfielder’s contract will allow him to leave the club for a fee of £20 million in the event of relegation, and Liverpool are hoping to take advantage of the situation and sign him. The midfielder was a target for Chelsea earlier on in the window, and the Blues were closing in on his capture.

However, the player failed his medical with the London club and the move has now collapsed. Meanwhile, Chelsea turned their attention towards better prospects like Moises Caicedo, with the former already completing his move from Brighton & Hove Albion.

It appears that Adams’s injury is more serious than previously feared, and he could be sidelined for several weeks. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool are willing to take the risk and sign the player this summer.

The reported £20 million price because of the clause in his contract seems quite reasonable and Adams is certainly capable of justifying that investment. However, he will have to get over his fitness problems before a move can be completed.

Liverpool are in desperate need of a quality defensive midfielder, and they have failed with their approach for Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia in the last few days. The Reds sanctioned the departure of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho recently, and they will have to replace both players adequately before the transfer window closes.

Liverpool lacked defensive stability against Chelsea, and they need a player who can come in and break up the opposition play. Adams could do an impressive job for Liverpool shielding the back four and helping them win the ball back in the middle of the park.

The 24-year-old is well-settled in the Premier League, and he could make an immediate impact at Liverpool if the transfer goes through. The opportunity to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world will be an attractive proposition for the midfielder, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.

His departure will come as a major blow to Leeds, who are hoping to secure promotion back to the Premier League immediately. However, they will be powerless to stop the player from leaving if his release clause is triggered. The 24-year-old is still relatively young, and Jurgen Klopp could help him develop further and establish himself as one of the finest midfielders in the league.

Adams would be a good signing for Liverpool and I say that as a Leeds fan. I’d like them to have a look at Gnonto too, if only to upset Everton and drive the price up so my poor old club gets something out of it.
