West Ham United are reportedly keen on signing 27-year-old Manchester United striker Anthony Martial this summer.

According to a report from talkSPORT, West Ham United have established contact with Manchester United for Anthony Martial. The French international cost the Red Devils €60 million in 2015.

Martial was expected to develop into a world-class forward when he joined Manchester United from AS Monaco in a €60 million deal. But his development has not gone according to plan. Persistent injury problems have stopped him from fulfilling his world-class potential, and the Frenchman will look to get his career back on track now.

A move to West Ham could prove to be ideal for him next season. Martial needs to play every week, and West Ham could certainly use someone like him. Meanwhile, the Frenchman has been linked with Inter Milan as well.

The Hammers were quite mediocre in the final third last season, and they need to bring in upgrades on players like Gianluca Scamacca and Michail Antonio. Martial could lead the line for them next season and he will add pace, flair and goals to the side. The Frenchman is versatile enough to start as the left-sided forward as well.

Martial is well-settled in the Premier League, and he will look to make his mark at West Ham if the move goes through. The 27-year-old is at the peak of his powers, and he will be determined to showcase his qualities at a high level.

West Ham will be competing in the UEFA Europa League next season, and they are likely to be an attractive destination for players. It remains to be seen whether West Ham can agree on a reasonable deal with Manchester United for the attacker.

The Red Devils recently signed Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta, and the Denmark international’s arrival has pushed Martial further down the pecking order at Old Trafford. A permanent exit would be ideal for all parties.

But it remains to be seen whether an agreement can be secured in the coming days. Martial is good enough to start for most Premier League clubs, and he could prove to be a transformative signing for West Ham if he manages to hit the ground running.
