Real Madrid looked to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from fellow La Liga club Valencia in a loan deal, but Los Che rejected the approach.

According to Hugo Ballester on COPE, Giorgi Mamardashvili was the subject of interest from Real Madrid this summer. Los Blancos offered a loan fee of €5 million with a mandatory purchase clause worth over €20 million. But Valencia did not entertain the offer, with the rejection coming straight from owner Peter Lim.

Giorgi Mamardashvili has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga since joining Valencia. The Georgian international spent his formative years in his homeland before arriving in Spain in July 2021. And after six months on loan at the Mestalla, he completed a permanent transfer in January 2022.

The 22-year-old has turned out 64 times thus far for Valencia, keeping 18 clean sheets. And he has been one of the reasons for Valencia staving off relegation in the last two seasons. But with Los Che struggling on the financial front, Mamardashvili can be one of the cash cows at the Mestalla.

Recent reports have claimed that Valencia will look to cash in on him this summer. Meanwhile, the young goalkeeper does not have a shortage of suitors, with several clubs from the Premier League showing interest in him. And he has also been a target for La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid.

The Merengues have been in the market for a goalkeeper this week after Thibaut Courtois picked up a long-term knee injury in training. And several candidates, including Giorgi Mamardashvili, have since emerged on Real Madrid’s radar. But the Spanish giants have failed with their bid to sign the Valencia shot-stopper.

Real Madrid offered a loan deal with a mandatory purchase clause. They proposed a loan fee of €5 million, with the obligation-to-buy provision being worth over €20 million. But Valencia did not entertain the bid, with Valencia turning down the approach.

The rejection might not matter anyway, as Kepa Arrizabalaga is on the verge of joining Real Madrid. As for Valencia, it will be interesting to see if they can balance the books by offloading Mamardashvili in the coming days.
