Real Madrid line up talks to sign Yassine Bounou, player wants move

Real Madrid will soon open talks to sign Yassine Bounou, who has a release clause of €50 million, with the 32-year-old keen on the move.

According to a report by Spanish outlet MARCA, Yassine Bounou is a top target for Real Madrid. The 32-year-old, who has a release clause of €50 million, is the leading candidate to cover for the absence of Thibaut Courtois. And Los Blancos will soon initiate discussions with Sevilla for the goalkeeper, who wants to move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Yassine Bounou has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga since joining Sevilla from Girona. The Moroccan international was an unknown quantity before his move to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium. But after a successful loan stint in the 2019/20 season, he completed a permanent transfer and has not looked back.

The 32-year-old was also one of the architects of his nation’s record-breaking run at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. And Bono has won two UEFA Europa League titles during his stint with Sevilla, where he has kept 58 clean sheets in 140 appearances. Meanwhile, his progress has not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid among his prospective suitors.

Real Madrid would not have envisioned entering the market for a first-choice goalkeeper this summer. But Thibaut Courtois’s potential season-ending knee injury has forced their hand. And they have identified several candidates to act as a short-term cover for the Belgian goalkeeper in the 2023/24 season.

The Merengues have identified Bono as the leading candidate to replace Courtois. And they have already initiated discussions with the player’s entourage. Meanwhile, the 32-year-old is keen on joining Real Madrid this summer and will push for a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

That is proving to be the driving factor in Real Madrid’s desire to open talks with Sevilla. And discussions between the two La Liga clubs should be underway soon. Meanwhile, the report claims that the Moroccan international has a release clause of €50 million in his contract.
