Paris Saint-Germain recently approached Barcelona over a possible move for 19-year-old Spanish international Gavi this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Gavi is the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain. And the Ligue 1 champions have submitted an enquiry to Barcelona over a possible move for the 19-year-old, whose market value is €90 million. But the Blaugrana will not entertain any bids to sell the young homegrown star.

Gavi is a rare success La Masia success story in the past decade. Graduations from the academy to the Barcelona first team had slowed down considerably during this period. But Barcelona’s financial woes forced them to dig into the youth division. And a few players, including the Spaniard, made hay while the sun shined.

The 19-year-old homegrown star made his first-team debut for Barcelona at the onset of the 2021/22 season. And he has come leaps and bounds since then, turning out nearly 100 times while chipping in with five goals and 13 assists. And Gavi’s progress has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain.

Reports from earlier this year linked the Spanish international with several Premier League clubs. And when the reigning La Liga champions were struggling to register his contract, teams like Liverpool and Chelsea considered launching the offensive to secure Gavi’s services. And Mundo Deportivo has pointed to PSG becoming the latest big-name suitor eyeing the Barcelona prodigy.

The 19-year-old homegrown star can reinforce the PSG midfield, considering several midfielders face an uncertain future at Parc des Princes. And with Marco Verratti closing in on leaving PSG, Gavi can be the Italian international’s long-term successor. So it is hardly surprising that the Ligue 1 champions have approached Barcelona for the teenage sensation.

Gavi’s market value is €90 million, but Barcelona might not even consider offers for double that amount. The report also corroborates that sentiment, suggesting the Blaugrana will not part ways with the Spaniard. But Barcelona will lose at least one player to PSG, with Ousmane Dembele closing in on a move.
