Fulham will reportedly rival fellow Premier League club Nottingham Forest in the race to sign Ismail Jakobs from Ligue 1 club AS Monaco.

According to a report by Daily Mail, Ismail Jakobs is the subject of interest from Fulham. The Cottagers are keen on signing a left-back in the ongoing transfer window. And the 23-year-old AS Monaco defender is the latest candidate to emerge on their radar. But Nottingham Forest will compete with the West London club for the former 1. FC Koln ace.

Ismail Jakobs spent his formative years in Germany and even represented the nation in age-group football. But he has chosen to turn out for Senegal, making his debut for the Lions of Teranga last year. Meanwhile, he began his youth career at BC Bliesheim before graduating from the 1. FC Koln Academy.

The 23-year-old gradually became a regular for the Bundesliga outfit before joining AS Monaco in July 2021. And he has been a solid performer for the Ligue 1 outfit, turning out 80 times thus far while chipping in with six assists. Jakobs’s progress at the Principality Club has captured the attention of several clubs, with Fulham joining the race to sign him.

The Cottagers have not been too active in the summer transfer window thus far. Calvin Bassey and Raul Jimenez have bolstered the Fulham squad. But the West London club might be set for a busy last couple of weeks of the summer, with Marco Silva eager to reinforce multiple departments in his squad.

The attack might be one of the areas Fulham will bolster again, with Demarai Gray being a top target. And the Cottagers have already agreed to personal terms with the Everton winger. Meanwhile, Fulham will be desperate to sign a left-back despite tying Antonee Robinson to a new contract.

Robinson is the only recognised left-back in Marco Silva’s squad. So it behoves Fulham to sign a left-back this summer. They have shown interest in players like Luca Pellegrini and Fode Ballo-Toure. And Ismail Jakobs has now emerged as a target for Fulham.

The 23-year-old is also a target for heavy-spending Nottingham Forest. But Fulham’s entry in the race to sign the AS Monaco left-back will complicate matters for the Tricky Trees. And it will be interesting to see if the Senegalese international arrives at Craven Cottage from the Ligue 1 club this summer.
