Manchester United have asked for conditions to explore a move for Jean-Clair Todibo, with the Frenchman viewed as a replacement for Harry Maguire.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Jean-Clair Todibo has emerged as a target for Manchester United, as Erik ten Hag views him as a replacement for Harry Maguire. OGC Nice reportedly value the defender at €40-50 million, with the Red Devils asking for conditions to begin negotiations.

Manchester United still have some work pending in the transfer window after bringing key additions to the squad. Striker Rasmus Hojlund became their latest signing after the club agreed to a mammoth €75 million deal with Atalanta.

Before that, Mason Mount and Andre Onana arrived on huge deals, while Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho signed contract extensions. Erik ten Hag still needs to bring in more reinforcements, mainly if some of his current stars depart.

A midfielder is a priority now, with Sofyan Amrabat heavily linked with a move. Ten Hag may also target a defender if Manchester United manages to sell Harry Maguire. The English defender is surplus to requirements, and the club would entertain reasonable offers closer to their valuations.

There is considerable interest in Maguire, and if they manage to sell him, a move for Jean-Clair Todibo could become a possibility. Manchester United are in contact with the relevant people close to the 23-year-old Frenchman to understand the deal’s conditions.

OGC Nice are open to a sale if a club closes in on their €40-50 million valuation for the defender. Juventus were earlier linked and even went close to signing the centre-back but have since pulled out of the chase altogether.

Manchester United could view the 23-year-old Frenchman as a good investment for their squad and even use the defender as a rotational option. Recent reports suggested West Ham United could plot a double move for Maguire and Scott McTominay, allowing the Red Devils to fund a transfer for the Nice defender.

For now, initial talks may have occurred in the background. Manchester United could start direct discussions with the Ligue 1 side in the coming period depending on Maguire’s status. A move may seem likely. But there are question marks about the price point and whether the Premier League side would pay up.
