Manchester United are keen to tie down 21-year-old winger Facundo Pellistri on a long-term deal before letting him leave on loan.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester United are trying to tie down Facundo Pellistri to a new long-term deal in the coming period. The Red Devils are open to letting the 21-year-old winger leave on loan after that, with FC Twente pushing for a move.

Manchester United have one of the best South American talents on their hands in Facundo Pellistri. The 21-year-old winger has yet to fully establish himself as a regular or even a squad player under Erik ten Hag, but the club holds him in high value.

Extending his contract with a long-term offering was always Manchester United’s plan alongside some other players. They have already extended deals of Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho in the last few months, as Pellistri is next in line.

Manchester United started talks with Pellistri over a new deal in May but are still looking for a breakthrough for some reason. There is optimism within the club to tie him down for the longer term and from the player’s end to do the same.

There is no immediate rush for Manchester United, considering the 21-year-old winger remains tied until 2025 with an option for another season. Yet, the club are eager to reward him with a new deal before sending him out on loan to aid his development.

Ten Hag may need to give Pellistri regular game time at another club to get him up to speed. It is a similar approach they took with Amad Diallo. Diallo suffered an injury in pre-season, which could scupper his chances of leaving, and the Uruguayan international could depart instead.

FC Twente have already asked to take the 21-year-old winger on loan for the upcoming season. Manchester United could sanction the move after Pellistri pens a new deal, which indicates talks are accelerating between the two parties.

In the current setup under ten Hag, the place on the wings have some prominent players ahead on the wings. Hence, the chances of playing regular football apart from probably cup games are light. So a move may seem necessary for his development.

At Twente, he could get that and open the doors to flourish. Pellistri could then return to Manchester United with some vital experience under his belt and challenge for a position in Ten Hag’s side next term.
