Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea are interested in signing 24-year-old Leeds United defensive midfielder Tyler Adams.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are keen on having Tyler Adams in their ranks. The Blues are looking to bolster their midfield before the end of the transfer window, and the 24-year-old is a name on their transfer target list. He is available for just £20 million due to a relegation clause in his contract.

Tyler Adams made a name for himself while playing for Bundesliga club RB Leipzig. The American midfielder went from strength to strength after joining the German club back in 2019. His impressive performances attracted the attention of Leeds United.

The West Yorkshire club managed to sign him ahead of the 2022/23 season as they looked to survive in the English top flight. The 24-year-old became an important part of their first team in his very first season and ended up making 24 appearances in the Premier League.

While he did his bit, Leeds ended up getting relegated. An injury that ruled him out of the last part of the season was a major reason for their relegation to the Championship. With Leeds no longer in the Premier League, the 24-year-old could leave them just a year after joining.

There is a relegation clause worth £20 million in his contract that could lead to his departure. Meanwhile, Chelsea are interested in his services. The Blues have offloaded quite a few players in the ongoing transfer window.

The departure of Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic has left a huge void in the centre of the park and they are looking to fill it by signing multiple midfielders. The Blues are looking to add defensive-minded midfielders into the mix.

Their priority is to sign Brighton’s Moises Caicedo. Despite having three bids rejected by the Seagulls, the Blues are looking to put forward a fourth offer in order to land him at the club. While their focus is on signing the 21-year-old, they are also looking to add Tyler Adams to the mix.

The 24-year-old has already proven his mettle in the English top flight and could be a bargain buy for the club given his £20 million relegation clause. The Blues have already established contacts with the player’s representatives as they explore the total cost involved in the operation. Once they have more clarity, the Blues could make the next moves.
