AC Milan and Barcelona are reportedly in contact over a possible move for 28-year-old French international Clement Lenglet this summer.

According to Italian journalist Giacomo Iacobellis, Clement Lenglet is the subject of interest from AC Milan. Stefano Pioli wants to complete his squad’s defensive unit in the ongoing transfer window. And the Serie A giants are in contact with Barcelona over a possible move for the 28-year-old centre-back.

Clement Lenglet has reached a crossroads in his career after the end of his loan stint at Tottenham Hotspur. The French international does not have a future at FC Barcelona, with Xavi Hernandez giving the green light to sell him. So his decision over his next destination will be crucial in the ongoing transfer window.

The 28-year-old has turned out over 150 times for Barcelona, chipping in with seven goals and three assists. But Lenglet’s Barcelona future is non-existent, with the Blaugrana looking to cash in on him to help balance the books. However, the player does not have a shortage of suitors, with AC Milan recently joining the race to sign him.

Stefano Pioli has several centre-backs in his first-team squad. But a closer look reveals that the AC Milan manager can do with a new central defender in the ongoing transfer window. And while Fikayo Tomori and Pierre Kalulu are reliable performers, the options beyond the duo are not impressive enough.

Simon Kjaer has been a dependable performer for AC Milan in the last few seasons. But the Danish defender is well into his thirties and approaching the twilight of his career. In addition, Malick Thiaw has blown hot and cold during his stint with the Serie A club. So it behoves AC Milan to invest in a centre-back this summer.

Lenglet has thus emerged as a viable target for the Rossoneri. And the Serie A giants have already contacted Barcelona to discuss a possible deal for the 28-year-old French international. Giacomo Iacobellis has now added that AC Milan will look to seal the deal at €10 million.

Considering Lenglet’s contract runs out in three years, €10 million is a paltry sum. But with Barcelona keen on offloading him, a miserly transfer fee is understandable. Meanwhile, widespread reports have heavily linked him with Tottenham. And it will be interesting to see if AC Milan can beat the North London club to the 28-year-old French international.
