Chelsea could add Tyler Adams to their midfielder shortlist as Mauricio Pochettino is keen to bolster the central positions.
According to The Times, Tyler Adams has emerged as a target for Chelsea’s midfield ahead of the new season. The Leeds United star has a relegation clause in his contract, as clubs could make a move in the latter stages of this window.
The Chelsea midfield problems have no end in sight, as Mauricio Pochettino reiterated the need to strengthen the central positions. Moises Caicedo has been their main target for this summer, but so far, Chelsea have seen at least three bids rejected by Brighton, with the latest one worth £80 million.
The shrinking window has made them think about alternatives, but they remain adamant about the Ecuadorian. Some reports suggested Caicedo could force a move-through. But considering his relations with Brighton & Hove Albion, that seems unlikely.
Meanwhile, besides Caicedo, Chelsea plans on further midfield signings to bolster their depth. Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher are the only two senior midfielders available to start, although Brazilian youngster Andrey Santos impressed during pre-season.
They also signed Lesley Uguchukwu from Rennes in a big move, but the midfielder will likely join Strasbourg on loan. With the Caicedo deal nowhere close to concluding, Chelsea have reportedly identified Leeds United star Tyler Adams as a possible target.
The USNMT captain has a relegation clause in his Leeds contract that could allow him to leave on the cheap. The details remain under wraps, but Chelsea can seize the American from the Yorkshire side with some intensity.
Apart from Tyler, they also have Edson Alvarez on their list. Chelsea wanted the Mexican international last summer. But Ajax refused a move considering the time left in the window to find a replacement. The midfielder has already seen a move to Borussia Dortmund break down and he remains on West Ham’s shortlist.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have also considered hijacking the Romeo Lavia deal from under Liverpool’s nose. He, too, has a big price tag, and the Blues are yet to show proper intent in the chase. As for Adams, the 24-year-old defensive midfielder has experience in the Premier League that could help the West London side.
He will add some serious depth to their position, which looks thin now. The 24-year-old defensive midfielder will also come cheap for Chelsea’s liking, which makes him a strong contender to arrive at Stamford Bridge later in this window.
