Chelsea are keen on acquiring the services of Romeo Lavia and are looking to hijack Liverpool’s move for the Southampton midfielder.

According to a report by Football Insider, Chelsea are pushing hard for the services of Romeo Lavia. They are keen on signing a new defensive midfielder in the ongoing transfer window and are looking to hijack Liverpool’s move for the 19-year-old Southampton midfielder.

Lavia has been the talk of the town over the last two weeks. He has been on the radar of multiple top clubs in England and it looks like a bidding war is in place for the Belgian teenage sensation.

Liverpool are one of the clubs interested in the former Manchester City midfielder. The Merseyside club are trying to complete a midfield overhaul and have been in talks to sign the 19-year-old for a long while now.

Jurgen Klopp’s team recently parted ways with their skipper Jordan Henderson and are all set to lose out on Fabinho in the coming days. Henderson’s move to the Saudi Pro League is already complete and as per reports, the Brazilian midfielder will soon join his skipper in the Middle East.

The duo’s departure leaves a huge void in the centre of the park and the Merseyside club are looking to fill it by signing multiple midfielders. Lavia has been on their radar for a while and they have been making moves to sign him.

Liverpool recently submitted a initial bid for the 19-year-old worth £34 million plus £4 million in add-ons but it has been rejected by the Championship club. They are expected to put forward another bid in the coming days.

But, they have a lot to think about with Chelsea entering the race for his services. They offloaded quite a few players and are now pushing to add a few new players to the mix.

Their priority is to sign a new defensive midfielder with N’Golo Kante no longer at the club. And, they have been in talks with Brighton for the signatures of Moises Caicedo. But, haven’t been able to strike a deal. Their third bid worth £80 million has been rejected by the Seagulls.

As a result, they could drop their interest in his services and shift their focus towards the 19-year-old. According to the report, the Blues are all set to put forward a bid. They are looking to submit an offer closer to Southampton’s £50 million asking price than Liverpool have and could end up hijacking the deal.
