Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is reportedly in contact with Nasser Al-Khelaifi over a deal for Kylian Mbappe, a target for Real Madrid.
According to a report by Spanish outlet COPE, Kylian Mbappe is the subject of interest from Chelsea. And the West London club’s co-owner Todd Boehly has contacted Paris Saint-Germain supremo Nasser Al-Khelaifi over a possible summer deal. The French international is also a target for Real Madrid.
Kylian Mbappe has become a pantomime villain for the Paris Saint-Germain decision-makers in the last few weeks. The 24-year-old announced his decision not to sign a new contract with PSG in June. And since then, Les Parisiens have been scrambling to cash in on him before the summer transfer window shuts down.
The Frenchman is a bonafide superstar, having been a pivotal figure for his club and country for a long time. And he was sensational in the 2022/23 season, amassing 41 goals and ten assists in 43 appearances. But Mbappe’s PSG future is non-existent, as they look to avoid losing him for free. And the situation has captured the attention of Real Madrid and Chelsea.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner has been on Real Madrid’s radar for a long time. But Los Blancos will unlikely launch the offensive to secure Mbappe’s services this summer. And they will prefer to sign him in a Bosman move in 2024 instead of paying the big bucks this year. Meanwhile, the player is due a loyalty bonus following the beginning of August.

But Real Madrid’s stance comes with a risk, as other high-profile clubs can make a beeline for the French international this summer. However, that does not seem to have a bearing on the Spanish heavyweights, who will not change their stand. Meanwhile, Chelsea will look to hijack the deal to sign him.
Recent reports have pointed to Chelsea lining up a possible player-plus-cash deal in exchange for Mbappe’s services. And the report by COPE has revealed that Todd Boehly has been in contact with Nasser Al-Khelaifi. The two bigwigs are discussing a summer transfer for the 24-year-old.
But with the final decision resting with the Frenchman, Chelsea will have a tall order signing him. It will be interesting to see if Mbappe’s stance about not joining a club apart from Real Madrid changes. For now, a 2024 move to the Santiago Bernabeu appears the likeliest outcome from this saga.
