Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier in recent weeks.
A report from Football Insider claims that Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have now cooled their interest in signing Illan Meslier. Leeds United value the French goalkeeper at £20-25 million.
Meslier has been a key player for Leeds United since joining the club and it remains to be seen whether he decides to leave the club this summer. Both Premier League clubs would be an exciting destination for the player, and he is likely to be tempted to join them.
Leeds have been relegated to the Championship after a disappointing campaign and someone like Meslier will want to compete in the top flight. It remains to be seen whether he decides to force a move away from the club this summer.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have been linked with a number of goalkeepers recently. Former star David De Gea has left the club upon the expiry of his contract and the Red Devils have signed Andre Onana as his replacement.
Dean Henderson has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford as well and it will be interesting to see if Manchester United decide to bring in a quality replacement for him.
As far as Tottenham are concerned, they needed to sign a quality long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris and they have already secured the services of Guglielmo Vicario.
Meslier will have to be a backup option at both clubs and the move simply does not make sense for him.
The Frenchman needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and he is unlikely to get that opportunity at Manchester United or Tottenham.
There is no doubt that he is a quality goalkeeper with the potential to develop into one of the best in the Premier League. He needs to join the club but he will be the first-choice goalkeeper and it remains to be seen where he ends up.
The reported £20-25 million valuation of the player seems quite reasonable and he could prove to be a bargain at that price.
