Manchester United signed Andre Onana from Inter Milan earlier this summer, and Andy Cole has aimed a dig at the new arrival.

While Andre Onana did manage to impress with his distribution in the pre-season game against Real Madrid, he was chipped early on in the game by Jude Bellingham, and he ended up conceding a bicycle kick from Joselu towards thee nd. And Manchester United legend Andrew Cole has now aimed a subtle dig at the player.

Cole claimed that a goalkeeper should be able to save the ball, and his distribution skills would not make much of a difference if he did not prevent goals. He said via Football Transfers, “I don’t care if you can do 10 kick-ups, a goalkeeper needs to be able to save the ball.”

Andre Onana was a key player for Inter Milan in the 2022/23 season, and he helped them reach the final of the UEFA Champions League. There is no doubt that the Cameroonian goalkeeper is a quality shot-stopper. He was certainly one of the best in Europe last season and could be an asset for Manchester United in the coming seasons.

However, it is also true that he can be prone to moments of madness and will need to work on that. Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will know all about the player having worked with him at Ajax, and it remains to be seen whether the Dutchman can get the best out of the 27-year-old goalkeeper in the coming seasons after securing his services.

Onana is entering his peak years, and he will look to play his best football with Manchester United. The Red Devils needed to bring in a top-class goalkeeper to replace club legend David de Gea, who left earlier this summer upon the expiry of his contract.

Onana certainly has the attributes to develop into one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, and it remains to be seen whether he can work out the inconsistencies in his game.
