Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has been linked with a move to West Ham United in recent weeks.
According to a report from The Athletic, West Ham United are keen on signing Conor Gallagher after the departure of Declan Rice and they have submitted a £40 million bid for him. However, Chelsea have rejected their advances, and it remains to be seen whether West Ham are prepared to return with an improved offer.
The report adds that Gallagher wants to stay at Stamford Bridge regardless of the situation and the Hammers will have to convince him to change his mind.
West Ham certainly have the finances to pay big money for him after the sale of Declan Rice. The 24-year-old England international joined Arsenal in a British transfer record deal.
Meanwhile, the 23-year-old Chelsea midfielder is reportedly valued at £50 million and he could prove to be a useful acquisition for West Ham. He is unlikely to get regular game time at Stamford Bridge and it makes sense for him to move on in search of regular playing time.
West Ham had a disappointing Premier League campaign last year but they are an attractive destination this summer because they will be competing in the Europa League next season. Gallagher will get regular game time at West Ham and that will only help his development. The midfielder is reportedly admired by West Ham manager David Moyes.
The 23-year-old has previously had a loan spell at Crystal Palace and he was outstanding for the Eagles. There is no doubt that he is good enough to start regularly in the Premier League and if Chelsea cannot provide him with that platform, he should look to leave the club.
