Barcelona ready to deal with Aston Villa for Ferran Torres

Aston Villa are pushing hard to secure the services of Barcelona star Ferran Torres

According to SPORT, Premier League side Aston Villa are keen to add Barcelona star Ferran Torres to their ranks in the ongoing summer transfer window. This comes after they failed with a January bid for the Spanish star earlier this year.

Under Unai Emery, the Villains have rediscovered their mojo and look set to challenge for a European spot next season. They have been assisted ably by the club’s recruitment staff in this regard having already signed Youri Tielemans, Pau Torres and Moussa Diaby.

The arrival of Diaby adds more inspiration to the frontline, something that could still do with an addition or two, especially up front. The Villains have yet to replace Danny Ings, who left the club last January, leaving just Ollie Watkins as the recognized senior frontman in the roster.

While primarily a left-winger, Torres can play up front and anywhere along the frontline if needed. This versatility should allow Emery to try out different formations and establish a free-flowing attack that resonates with his counter-attacking style.

At 23, Torres is still young and has the best years of his career ahead of him. An excellent dribbler and passer, the €55 million Spanish international is also strong in the air and is capable of finding the back of the net consistently. More so, he is well acquainted with the Premier League having spent two years at Manchester City.

Torres’s time at Barcelona has been a mixed bag and he is far from a first XI regular. A move to Villa Park could resurrect his career and help him rekindle the flame that showcased much potential in his youth.

The ability to pass and move while progressing possession certainly aids Villa’s cause. More so, Torres can also compete with Leon Bailey on the left wing, providing competition and cover for the former Bayer Leverkusen ace.

As we saw with Samuel Chukwueze and Arnaut Danjuma, Emery has what it takes to resurrect a struggling wide-man’s career. Torres could very well turn out to be the next player to benefit from the Spaniard’s direction.

A lot will depend on how Barcelona view the deal in the coming weeks. Selling the player could see them net a decent fee that can then be reinvested. More so, Torres could be handed a larger role to fulfil at Villa Park than the peripheral one he occupies at Camp Nou. The player isn’t too keen on the move but stranger things have happened in football.
