Barcelona will look to recoup €15 million to sell 28-year-old French defender Clement Lenglet, who has agreed personal terms with Tottenham.
According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Clement Lenglet remains a top target for Tottenham Hotspur in the ongoing transfer window. And the two parties have an agreement on the personal term. But the move for the 28-year-old has stalled, with Barcelona now demanding €15 million to part ways with him.
Clement Lenglet has reached a crossroads in his career, as he does not have a future in Barcelona. The Catalan giants are keen on offloading him this summer as they look to balance their books. And the Frenchman has reached this stage after a few seasons of mediocrity, having initially been a regular for Barcelona.
The 28-year-old spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Tottenham, where he was a regular. Lenglet turned out 35 times for Tottenham this past season, chipping in with one goal and two assists. And the North London giants are keen on securing his services in a permanent deal. But Barcelona’s demands over the transfer fee have complicated matters.
Reports last month suggested that a deal in the region of €5 million might be on the cards, with Tottenham ready to shell out the sum. But since then, Barcelona’s demands have changed every few days. And as they look to balance their books, the Catalan giants are trying to make the most from Lenglet’s sale.
Talks over a deal for the French international have been going on for a long time. And recent reports suggested that Barcelona wanted to accelerate Lenglet’s departure to Tottenham. Meanwhile, Tottenham’s interest in the player is understandable amid Ben Davies’s advancing years.
So even though Lenglet was inconsistent last season, he can at least be a rotation option for Ange Postecoglou. But the latest update reveals Barcelona will look to recoup €15 million from the 28-year-old defender’s sale. So while Tottenham and the player have an agreement on personal terms, the asking price might be an issue.
It will be interesting to see if Tottenham will be willing to fork out €15 million to secure Lenglet’s services. With the Frenchman keen on returning to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Barcelona’s bargaining power might reduce.
