Tottenham to offer €5 million to sign Clement Lenglet

Tottenham are reportedly hoping to sign Clement Lenglet from Barcelona on a permanent transfer this summer.

Clement Lenglet was on loan at Tottenham this past season, and he did reasonably well. A report from Spanish publication SPORT claims that Tottenham are now ready to offer €5 million to sign the defender permanently from Barcelona.

It will be interesting to see if Barcelona are willing to sell him for that price. It is clear that the 27-year-old Frenchman does not have a future at the Spanish club, and Tottenham are now hoping to take advantage of his situation and sign him for a bargain.

It is no secret that Tottenham will have to bring in defensive reinforcements this summer. They were quite vulnerable defensively this past season. In addition, players like Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga have been linked with moves away from the club.

Cristian Romero seems like the only reliable defender at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium right now. So the North London club will prioritise bringing in central defensive reinforcements this summer.

Lenglet is used to Premier League football by now, and he could be an important option to have next season. If Tottenham manage to sign him for €5 million he should prove to be a bargain for them

The Frenchman will be hoping to play often next season, and he knows that staying at Barcelona is not going to be ideal for him. The player is likely to be keen on leaving this summer. And the opportunity to return to Tottenham could be an attractive option.

Spurs have appointed a new manager in Ange Postecoglou, and the Australian will be hoping to get the most out of his players. He could help the French defender get back to his best and establish himself as a key player for Tottenham. Lenglet was highly rated during his time at Sevilla. But he has not been able to recapture that form in the last few years.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are going through financial difficulties right now. So they need to get rid of the fringe players so that they can sign new players this summer. Cashing in on Lenglet will be a no-brainer for them but they will probably be hoping for a more respectable price. But they might want more than €5 million to part ways with the 27-year-old.
