Zion Suzuki likely to join Manchester United next month

Manchester United are expected to complete the signing of 20-year-old J League sensation Zion Suzuki next month.

According to a report by Dean Jones via GIVEMESPORT, Manchester United are keen on having Zion Suzuki in their ranks ahead of next season. The 20-year-old shot-stopper has been on their radar for a while now and they are making moves to acquire his services.

Erik ten Hag has done wonders since taking charge of the Red Devils. He won a trophy in his very first season in charge and managed to finish 3rd in the league helping them return to the Champions League.

While it was a successful season for the Manchester-based club, the Dutch manager has identified a few key areas that need reinforcement and has been working on it throughout the summer.

The former Ajax manager has already signed Mason Mount from Chelsea and he has also secured the services of Inter Milan shot-stopper Andre Onana who will take over as the club’s number one with David de Gea no longer a part of the setup.

Jones on Suzuki to Manchester United: “I think the Suzuki deal will be slightly easier. I do expect that one might start to start moving forwards next week.

“It’s not an absolute priority. But with Dean Henderson looking to leave soon means Tom Heaton is the only cover. Man Utd don’t just want to have Heaton as Onana’s backup.

“So, I think Suzuki will be in by the start of the season at the very latest. And they’ll have alternates just in case that one doesn’t come off.”

While the number one spot is sorted, the Red Devils are looking to add another goalkeeper to the mix. With Dean Henderson likely to leave the club, Tom Heaton will be the only backup option. The Dutch manager wants to have a better backup option and is pushing for the signatures of Suzuki who has made quite a name for himself.

The Urawa Reds goalkeeper’s contract runs out in the winter of 2024 and with just over 6 months left on his deal, the J league club are ready to offload him for the right price. According to the report, a £5 million fee should be enough to prize him away from the club.

While the Red Devils are not pushing hard to acquire the services of the 20-year-old, they are likely to complete the deal next month. According to Jones, it won’t be that difficult to sign the Japan youth international and he is expected to be in the United ranks before the start of next season.
