Newcastle United are reportedly on the verge of signing highly-rated right-back Valentino Livramento from Southampton in a deal worth around £30 million.

Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Valentino Livramento for a while now and had a £15 million bid rejected by Southampton for the 20-year-old last month. But discussions have continued, and the Magpies are now set to agree to a package deal worth around £30 million for the England Under-21 international, according to The Guardian.

Newcastle United are readying themselves for their long-awaited return to the UEFA Champions League this summer, with manager Eddie Howe working on identifying potential new additions that can take his squad to the next level.

The Magpies kicked off the summer transfer window with a bang by capturing Sandro Tonali. But the activity went a bit quiet with the Toon struggling to offload the fringe players to make room for new additions, forcing them to try and sell star winger Allan Saint-Maximin, who is closing in on a move to Saudi Arabia.

The Frenchman’s departure is likely to accelerate several live deals that are currently stuck in the pipeline, with Eddie Howe closing in on his second signing of the summer in the form of Harvey Barnes.

Indeed, Fabrizio Romano reported yesterday that Newcastle have agreed to a £38 million deal with Leicester City to snap up the one-capped England international. The Englishman has already completed a medical on Tyneside and will soon join up with his teammates in the USA on a pre-season tour.

It seems that Newcastle may not stop there as they inch closer to signing another top target in Southampton wonderkid Valentino Livramento, who seems to be pushing for an immediate return to the Premier League this summer and is eager for a move to St. James’ Park.

Livramento would be a really smart acquisition for Newcastle. Of course, he barely played last season after suffering a serious knee injury that ruled him out for nearly a year. But he showed during his time on the south coast that he has huge potential. He took no time at all to establish himself as one of the most exciting full-backs in the Premier League.

Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn were the standout performers for Newcastle United last season. But Howe will certainly need added depth in the full-back department, especially with the likes of Javier Manquillo and Jamal Lewis up for sale, while young Harrison Ashby is earmarked for a developmental Championship loan to get regular minutes.

Primarily a right-back, Livramento would be joining Newcastle as a second fiddle to Newcastle captain Trippier. But surely, the idea of working with and learning from one of the best playmaking full-backs in the world appeals to him. As far as Newcastle are concerned, they are future-proofing in a key area, with Trippier well into his thirties. Further details on the exact initial fee and payment structure are yet to be revealed. But this move looks close to being sealed.
